our cities are for people

I was walking down the street in Baltimore the other day and saw this on the side of a building calling out to me

we must hold fast to the realization
that our cities are for people
and unless they work well for people
they are not working well at all.

as the people of the world learn
what is possible, they will demand
that their cities be geared
to the humane and the beautiful.

what are we making our downtown to be?

I love that you posted this, John - the sentiment is so very true, but not often verbalized. If the people inhabiting a city are not happy, the city itself is not working. Have we become a city where people "stay" - or a city where people "live"? I'm all for the living... let's get on it, ASAP! ;)
